In SEUM: SPEEDRUNNERS FROM HELL, players take on the role of Marty, a simple truck driver. One day, Marty is just relaxing and enjoy a beer when demons arrive and steal his last batch of limited edition Walrus Ale. In the fight that ensues, he loses his right arm but takes the arm from a demon to replace his lost limb. Now with the power of demons in his hand, Marty must race, teleport, jump, fly, and blast his way through ever-increasingly difficult levels of hell to recover the beer that's been stolen.
With 100 levels, each more difficult and devilish than the last, this platformer is a fun, challenging game that can be extremely addictive and frustrating all at the same time. Your ability to learn routes through the mazes, avoid the obstacles of spike traps and fireballs, and solve the challenges of activating gates and platforms in a timely fashion determine where you are on the leaderboards. To add to the difficulty, the mazes you navigate aren't simple flat mazes. They'll require you to shoot fireballs from your demon hand, bounce on platforms, teleport, fly, and keep from being struck down by numerous deadly traps in a complex three-dimensional playground. The soundtrack of the game amplifies the gameplay well with its heavy-metal-based theme sound that keeps your heart pounding while you navigate the hellish environment.
SEUM: Speedrunners from Hell is the world's only competitive heavy metal first-person platformer. Like a bastard child of Quake 3 and Super Meat Boy, SEUM: Speedrunners from Hell is truly hardcore and focuses on speed and fast reaction.
While the graphics may seem rudimentary, they do fit the theme very well, keeping the spirit of old games such as Doom and Quake alive and well. Occasionally you may come across areas that feel like you're getting stuck on edges you shouldn't, especially on corners and going through gates, which slows you down and adds to the frustration. Overall, Seum is a great fast-paced and difficult game that challenges you to best each level as fast as you can where milliseconds mean the difference between being first or 3,001 on the leaderboards.
